Sonic Design Goals
The design goals of our Bella series was to offer more of a
"they are here" presentation drawing you, the listening,
deeper into the music from a high"er" efficiency loudspeaker
system utilizing SP Technology's Waveguide. The Waveguide design
provides a spacious soundstage that does not disappear as you move
about while giving you an amazing sense of imaging when hanging out in
that sweet spot. Dispersion remains on both the vertical and horizontal
plain. No more wasting precious listening time evaluating your
components, it's time to start appreciating and enjoying the music being
reproduced by it. Even solid state amplification will provide a sense of
emotional involvement - but without the "clutter" and
"fuzziness" that a lot of speakers exhibit with higher
crossover frequencies. These Bella SPs have the magic balance of warmth
in the lower midrange with clarity, detail and speed from the 1,000 Hz
crossover frequency on up. While even moderately priced, low power
receivers sound quite acceptable on them, the Musica Bella
loudspeakers were designed and voiced around that seductive tube
amplification-
stop in for an audition and judge for yourself.
The Bella SP/AV-1 series is designed as an affordable
high-end custom built speaker system. Voicing for the Bella speakers is being done
with a plethora of amplification including but not limited to our Signature
and Reference 3205
amplifiers, Reference Jolida
JD801 amplifier, 8 watt and 25 watt 300B amplifiers as well as various solid
state and Hybrid designs from 30 to 200 watts. I even spent several
hours auditioning these speakers being driven by our EXtreme
ASL Hurricanes at 200 watts per channel. While we offer
full package systems based on the 3205 amplifiers these speakers can
obviously be mated with just about any means of amplification you might
have in mind but recommend 20-100 watts of tube power.
Ironically, SP's Waveguide Technology was developed to
extract the most performance possible for music reproduction. As a
secondary side effect, it offers better performance for home theater
applications than most products designed specifically for home theater.
Although a center channel speaker will enhance the home theater
experience, one is not necessary to provide the staging effects of a
home theater experience. The controlled dispersion provided by
the Waveguide is exactly what Tomlinson Holman was thinking of when he
invented the THX specifications.
Now we just need to get George Lucas to hear his work through this
technology. For home theater applications, you will find that a center
channel speaker is not necessary but we will offer the Bella speakers in
two, three and five channel packages should you desire a full 5 channel
set-up. We recommend running a trio of SP/AV-2 speakers across the front
with a pair of SP/AV-1's filling in the rear.
About the Bella SP/ AV Series?
Response Audio is building the crossovers in house and to our
specifications using a unique recipe of internal components. The
crossovers will utilize high grade capacitors from VH Audio's V-Cap line
including both the TFTF (Teflon Film Tin Foil) and the OIMP (Oil
Impregnated Metalized Polypropylene) and Theta Audio Cap PPT series.
High grade air core inductors as well as audio grade Mills resistors are
also utilized. Correction circuits allowing for a flat response are
also incorporated into each unit. These are extremely time consuming
circuits as each tweeter is individually tested with the circuit being
design based on the test results. We do not use "standardized"
circuits as this would only cause strange imbalances in the matching of
each pair of speakers as no two drivers have the same electrical
characteristics.
These unique x-over and internal damping techniques will
allow the Bella SP/AV series to maintain speed, dynamics and
transparency while still providing just the right balance of musicality
and emotional involvement. If you are looking for an
"audiophile" analytical presentation with pinpoint imaging
that disappears when you get up for a snack, you are looking in the
wrong place. If you are looking for a speaker to provide you with
musical realism for hours on end without fatigue, give us a call or stop in for an
audition. The Bella speaker system is designed to allow the whole family
or a bunch of your audiophile buddies to enjoy the full potential of
these speakers from anywhere in the room. Also very well suited for even
the most discriminating recording studio applications. Again, don't take my word for
it, only your ears can tell you the truth.

Modifications and Upgrades
We have spent countless hours and sleepless nights in
the design of these speakers to optimize their performance. Therefore,
we will not be offering "variations" that may distract from
our sonic goals. We are offering only the fullest potential these
speakers have to offer right from the start. The only option will be
your choice of single or bi-wire arrangement in external crossover setups.

The speakers really get out the way of the music and
sound clear, musical, detailed, and naturally accurate. I keep
coming back to the word “natural”. The sounds just flowed from
the speaker, without edginess or effort. One other aspect that was
really nice was the high efficiency of the Bella speaker. Both the
25-watt and 40-watt amps (25 watt was a Bella 300B P-P prototype, 40
watt unit was a Reference modified 805 stereo amp) drove these speakers to quite loud room-filling

BUT, my most favorite speakers of all are the new
Bella 1's that are now happily playing in my living room. My wife
heard them twice, and upon the second listen said "these are really
much clearer and better than the old speakers"

speakers, I can really tell you that they really allow the music to

Hi Bill,
...had an all too short listen with your Bella SP 1's
at Woodsyi's place last weekend... Fabulous, congratulations! The
equipment chain, I believe, was a moded SB2 player, my ModWright 9.0SE
preamp, Woodsyi's Extreme Hurricanes... the MW and SB were being fed by
a Running Springs conditioner.
I was late for an evening commitment at that point, so we only had a
chance to listen to 2-3 "cuts" before I had to grab my
ModWright and run... but the Bella's immediately impressed me as being
very much to my tastes (I'm a Salk Sound HT-3 owner). They conveyed the
music in a natural, detailed, yet delicate manner. Sweet!!! Our main
focus had been listening to 3 iterations of moded SB's so the Bella's
were set up just outside of the VMPS 40's, an easy twelve or thirteen
feet apart, yet the center fill was anything but thin sounding... again,
quite impressive.
Anyway, just wanted to commend on a wonderful job, hope to hear them
more extensively in future visits!!!

I like the Bella speakers. From the get go, they were
very clean to the point of being lean. Initially, I couldn't listen to
Judy Collins because she was just too monotonous and single pitched to
the point of annoyance even with 6SN7 preamp and KT 88 tube amps with
6SN drivers in the chain. I also used Iliana Cortrubas, Annie Haslam and
Maria Callas (vinyl only for her since she is unlistenable on CD) for my
test listening. They have difficult voices to reproduce nicely, but
Bellas have now filled out and reproduce them quite nicely. I would
characterize these speakers as neutral and accurate but with some extra
mojo that makes them special.
