The Finishing Process

 The sequence of pictures below will walk you through the finishing process of a pair of Bella SP/AV-1 loudspeakers. This particular pair is being finished in Cherry real wood veneer. A total of 5 coats of Antique Oil Finish will be applied to each speaker prior to the installation of the internal make-up and crossovers.

Here we show a few custom crossovers after assembly and just before going into the process of matching. Also shown are the tweeters mounted in their custom Waveguide mounting plates with all the additional tweeter circuitry incorporated. 


Here we show all the working parts of the Bella SP/AV-1 speakers getting ready to me mounted in customer's speakers.

Here is a picture of the matching external crossovers that go with the speakers at left. Notice the Eichmann Cable Pod binding post for the input and the Speak-On connectors for connecting to the speaker cabinet which also contains a female Speak-On connector.

 

 

What started out as a pair I planned to keep for myself ended up in a new home in New Jersey after the customer came in and auditioned them. Since these speakers started out as prototypes, the external crossovers were simple and were covered in vinyl veneer. I will custom build him a pair of nice Cherry real wood veneered enclosures  as time permits.

In the beginning
 

The pictures below are of another set of prototype Bella SP/AV-1 speakers. This pair is everything our production units are in terms of sonic performance but without the "production quality" finish. This pair was finished outside in the parking lot on a 45 degree day before we had the baffles professionally finished. The flaws are in the finish only. This pair was used as a comparison pair for evaluation crossovers with the pair above. You will also notice this pair does NOT have the outer "lip".

Update March 2, 2006: This particular pair has now become of demo pair with currently over 500 hours on them When I get caught up on mod work and have time to assemble a new set of cabinets, I will transfer the components, including crossovers, into a better looking pair.
