Clearwave
Loudspeaker Design is a small company that custom
designs and builds some beautiful loudspeakers. The
speakers shown on this page were custom built for
Response Audio's showroom . What you see here is a
beautiful 3-way design utilizing Seas, Accuton and a
glorious sounding Fountek ribbon tweeter extending the highs.
It
does not take long when listening to this 3-way
speaker to realize very special care and attention
was put into the crossover design. The integration
of drivers is seamless. The paper cone Seas woofers
provide a deep, fast yet smooth response before
handing things over to the Accuton midrange. Many
would expect this ceramic driver to be dry and
analytical. Absolutely not the case here. The
midrange is extremely lifelike, clean and
transparent but without even a hint of fatigue. Now
we move up to my personal favorite tweeter..... a
ribbon. This ribbon provides plenty of air and
extension with detail and presence that raises the
bar in the goosebump arena. To my ears, the midrange
and tweeter sound like a single point source driver
This pair of speakers are finished in a beautiful
Cherry real wood veneer.
The
impedance is flat making this a perfect choice for
tube amplifiers. My recommendation would be a
minimum of 50 watts to really get them to sing.
The CLD speaker provides a wide and deep soundfield
in our larger listening room while still giving you
a intimacy and pinpoint center image. I would have to say this is
the best sounding 3-way integration I have
heard in several years. It has changed my mind about
3-way loudspeakers and only goes to show how good a
3-way speaker can sound when done properly.
Overall, this custom loudspeaker has earned it's way
into our showroom not only for you to audition and
enjoy but also as a reference speaker to be used in
the development and evaluation of our Response Audio
and OEM product designs.
I
